Overview
A 2023 B.Tech graduate from a tier-2 college applied off campus with no referral and was invited to an online assessment, probably because of a prior six-month internship at Amazon. The process was an online test and two problem-solving interviews. The candidate found it noticeably tougher than the Amazon intern process and used the four days between the test and the first interview to finish a popular DSA problem list.
Interview rounds
-
1
Online Assessment (90 minutes)
Three coding questions. One was a subset-selection problem on binary strings with limits on the total number of zeros and ones, similar to a knapsack. The candidate passed about 70 percent of test cases overall. -
2
Problem Solving and Data Structures 1 (45 minutes)
A standard data structures and problem-solving interview. -
3
Problem Solving and Data Structures 2 (1 hour)
More of a discussion than a test. Questions covered why Flipkart over other companies and what the candidate likes and dislikes about the Flipkart app and website.
Tips and takeaways
Do not rush in DSA rounds. Reading the question wrongly and coding the wrong thing is the costliest mistake. Aim to visualize why a solution works and when to apply which technique. Flipkart publishes an SDE interview guide on its site, so read it. Prepare a clear answer to "why Flipkart" and honest feedback on the Flipkart app and website.
